The People of the Prince to Come

  1. Hello Joel. Thanks for the solid teaching in Daniel. I have some questions about the temple. In your first teaching on verses 24-27 you implied that it’s stated in Revelation that the future rebuilt temple in Daniel’s 70th week is considered holy by God. Where is that passage in Revelation located?
Also, could the Abomination of Desolation be more of what the Jewish people at that future time consider an abominable act? I’m asking because one of the main functions of the Old Testament was sacrificing animals for forgiveness. We know that Jesus was and is the final sacrifice for sin and the veil of the temple was torn signifying that the Old Covenant ordinances and sacrifices have been done away with in Jesus’ death.. We also know that God brought judgment down upon the Jewish leader’s corrupt religious system and the temple in 70 AD in fulfillment of what Jesus said would happen.
For clarity I do not believe in replacement theology and I fully believe in the restoration of Israel and the Jews in their homeland with King Jesus sitting on David’s throne. But I am confused with your belief about this temple. It sounds as if you are saying that God wants the temple restored for the Jewish people. Paul says over and over that we as believers are the temple of God. I agree that their will be a physical rebuilt temple in Jerusalem one day in the midst of Daniel’s 70th week, but I don’t see how this can be holy or ordained of God if it’s main purpose is animal sacrifices. I see God allowIng the Antichrist to desecrate this temple and then persecuting the Jews again before Jesus comes, which makes His coming and salvation of the Jewish nation all the more special as they turn to Him.
In other words, I see the references in Daniel and the gospels to this future Abomination of Desolation taken from the perspective of unbelieving Jews, on this side of the cross. But certainly for Daniel and Jesus, the event was yet future, while they were still under the law, which is why it would have been considered a desecration.

  2. 1Then there was given me a measuring rod like a staff; and someone said, “Get up and measure the temple of God and the altar, and those who worship in it.
2“Leave out the court which is outside the temple and do not measure it, for it has been given to the nations; and they will tread under foot the holy city for forty-two months. (Rev 11:1–2)

    “Temple of God”

If the Temple rituals were done away with, then why did Paul support them? Acts 21;24? Christians often misunderstand the purpose of the Temple and the sacrifices. As I comment in the video, the coming Temple will be desecrated and abominated, neither of these things could happen unless something was sacred ad holy first. To say that we are the Temple does not mean that the actual Temple is thus done away with or unholy. Old Testament believes were also the Temple of God. Throughout the MIllennium, during Jesus’ reign, there will be animal sacrifices, described in great detail in Ezekiel 40-48.

  3. Joel, I’m a grateful follower of yours but as usual I have a few nits to pick. I think you would profit from reading a seminal work by Michael Rood titled “The Chronological Gospels”, subtitled “The Life and Seventy Week Ministry of the Messiah”. He specifies that the decree of 457 BC plus 483 years leads exactly to the baptism of Jesus (not the triumphal entry). (Note that detailed analysis by Nelson Walters in his book “70 Times 7” and his blog of 6/23/18 on his website thegospelintheendtimes.com settle on the 457 BC date as well.)

Furthermore, as his title states, Mr. Rood has meticulously coordinated the four gospels plus Acts to explain that the ministry of Jesus was 70 weeks (a double fulfillment of Daniel’s 70 weeks). According to Mr. Rood, the propaganda of a 3 or 3 1/2 year ministry was initiated by Eusebius to ingratiate himself to the emperor who wanted to be the “Vicar” (vicarious) of Christ on Earth. The insertion of a false verse (John 6:4) plus other tweaks paved the way for this false narrative.

I am a fan of Mr. Rood and Mr. Walters with reservations. Mr. Rood doesn’t accept a pre-Wrath Rapture and Mr. Walters has not accepted that the ministry of Jesus lasted only 70 weeks. But as J. Warner Wallace explains in his book “Cold-Case Christianity”, differences in observations, recollections and reasoning argue for authenticity whereas multiple accounts that conform too closely point towards rehearsed collusion.

May the blessings of the Holy Spirit continue to inspire you.

    Maranatha!

  4. Dear Joel,

Many thanks for sharing more on what is obviously controversial amongst Christians, engendering many differing interpretations. The depth of your studies is eye opening and helpful. I have written before (not to get it printed but to share with yourself) what the Lord showed my in the early 1990’s, that the week of the covenant with many is not Daniel’s 70th week. This understand I cam to see as being crucial otherwise you place the abomination of desolation in the middle of the 7th week and not at the beginning. You then have to squeeze the first resurrection and catching away of the saints at the end of the age and the great tribulation and the wrath of God as the same thing. Yet the saints are not destined for wrath and the great multitude is seen in heaven before the wrath of God is poured out.

But God also spoke to me about what turned out to be the Oslo Accord, bringing to my attention that on 20th August 1993 there would be a covenant made with many for one week. Such was this revelation I began to keep newspaper cutting to wait and see and exactly on the 20th August 1993 the Oslo Accord was agreed.

Your teaching on Daniel’s 70th Week contains comment on the covenants with death that the northern and southern kingdoms of Israel and Judah entered into to seek peace with their enemies rather than repenting of their sins and turning back to God to stop this judgement.

In entering into the Oslo Accord modern day Israel did exactly the same! Brokered by Shimon Peres, his name means ‘division’. And exactly three and a half years later the Accord collapsed after the massacre of Israeli schoolchildren on the Hill of Peace..

Obviously the desolation did not occur then but Daniel 9:27 only says, “that on the wing of abomination will come one who makes desolate. It might be said the Oslo Accord was not for seven years but news cutting would suggest it might be considered as such.

I also want to thank you for your understanding that the Roman army in AD 70 was made up mainly of Jew hating Seleucids. (I hope I am not describing this badly) But I could see as you shared this the ‘prince who is to come’ was not talking about a man but a principality for the antichrist is described separately in this scripture as a ‘despicable person’ other than this prince. And in Daniel 10:20 you can see that Gabriel refers to the prince of Javan as being the prince who was to come.

We see from this that though men might die these princes remain. The prince of Javan behind Alexander the Great, Antiochus Epiphanies and modern day Turkey is still active and the ‘people of this prince’ those in the Roman army of AD70 and will be when Israel is surrounded by armies in the great tribulation.

I write, not to seek publication but to share what I believe God has shown me for some reason.

I was at one time National Director of FGBMFI in the 1980’s and became aware of God’s end-time plan as a very real expectation but little understood.

I send this for your consideration because I believe the Lord is telling me to.

    Colin

  5. Thanks for the teaching Joel!

My eyes were opened and Spirit testified to my spirit the moment I read your book, Mideast Beast and an explanation that I had never heard; namely that the people of the prince to come were not Roman at all. As you point out the word for “people” is ethnic, a bloodline. The people is the focus.

When you have this additional information, holding to a Roman AC becomes impossible IMO- unless you are following man and not what God is trying to teach us in the Scripture. Then the end time story fits well together.

We all have personal experience with the 9/11, attacks and the rise of ISIS and them cutting heads off of people for their god, all this coming from the same general area where the AC will arise from, this is like a billboard for those of us wanting to know the truth of the Scriptures about this- not just holding to old biases we thought were true. It could not be clearer IMO. ISIS was the wake up call for all Christians to rethink their long held viewpoints on the end times and what this means.

Also, IMO, it is clear there it at least 3.5 years left of the 70th week- whether the first 3.5 has been already been completed and stopped or not- but it seems like a whole period to me. The testimony of Scripture does put most all the weight on the last 3.5 years, with Daniel, Jesus, Paul, and John (the real Fab Four) :), all speaking about this very same period.-with Revelation having the final say in the matter. There is no way to get around the last 3.5 as taking place just before the Lord comes back to set up His Kingdom- and still future with the AD, being the event to start the last 3.5 years that we are all to watch for and begin our count down.

By Jesus’ own words He says the Great Tribulation will be cut short by His coming (Parousia), and we know the day of the Lord cannot start until His coming. This is what I hang my hat on.

15“Therefore when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), 16then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. 17“Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get the things out that are in his house. 18“Whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak. 19“But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20“But pray that your flight will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath. 21“For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will. 22“Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.

27“And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.”

5Then I, Daniel, looked and behold, two others were standing, one on this bank of the river and the other on that bank of the river. 6And one said to the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long will it be until the end of these wonders?” 7I heard the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, as he raised his right hand and his left toward heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever that it would be for a time, times, and half a time; and as soon as they finish shattering the power of the holy people, all these events will be completed.

1Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, 2that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.

13Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, “These who are clothed in the white robes, who are they, and where have they come from?” 14I said to him, “My lord, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

5There was given to him a mouth speaking arrogant words and blasphemies, and authority to act for forty-two months was given to him. 6And he opened his mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme His name and His tabernacle, that is, those who dwell in heaven.
7It was also given to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them, and authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation was given to him. 8All who dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain. 9If anyone has an ear, let him hear. 10If anyone is destined for captivity, to captivity he goes; if anyone kills with the sword, with the sword he must be killed. Here is the perseverance and the faith of the saints.

  6. Pergamum is the northward-pointed ‘face’ of the Anatolian Peninsula ‘angel’s head.” The Arabian Peninsula forms the wings. Islam came ‘on the wings of desolation’ out of Arabia. Israel is shaped like a kopis knife, with the blade set to the base of the wing. Javan/Ionia forms the ‘hair.’

The West Bank forms the gap for grip of the handle of the kopis, with Jerusalem right about where the the blade wielder’s forefinger would have ahold. The edge is set to cut towards the east. The West Bank integrating into Israel would fill in the handle. Israel would have more of a plow shape then than the sword shape.. This shadows the role of tending the Earth, during the Millennium versus the role of fighting principalities of evil spiritual forces in the present age.
