Long before it was popularly, and I would argue quite wrongly, held that Gog will prove to be a Russian antagonist distinct from the Antichrist, the “traditional” perspective was that Gog and the Antichrist are one and the same. Consider the following quotes, which I can only assume will come as a surprise to some.
“Gog is the end of all the dealings of God with respect to Israel, and that God brings up this haughty power in order to manifest on earth, by a final judgment, His dealings with Israel and with the Gentiles, and to plant His blessing, His sanctuary, and His glory in the midst of Israel.” —John Nelson Darby
“[T]hat destruction should fall at the climax of the last mad attempt to exterminate the remnant of Israel in Jerusalem. The whole prophecy belongs to the yet future ‘day of Jehovah’; and to the Battle of Armageddon.” —C.I. Scofield, Scofield Reference Bible
“The consummation of the battle involves birds and beasts eating the flesh of warriors , a scene similar to the description of Armageddon at the end of the Tribulation. Also, at the conclusion of the conflict the nations will understand the judging hand of God, and Israel will know that the LORD (YAHWEH) is their God. Perhaps the first thrust will begin just before the middle of the Tribulation, with successive waves of the invasion continuing throughout the last part of that period and building up to Armageddon.”
—Charles Ryrie, Ryrie Study Bible
“Ezekiel 38 and 39 refer to Armageddon and not to some earlier World War III… There is no doubt, from both Zechariah 12 and Revelation 1 and 19, that this personal coming of Yahweh to rescue His people and to destroy Antichrist and his armies takes place at Armageddon. It is significant, then, that similar language concerning the personal presence of God is found in Ezekiel 38 and 39, thus identifying the event described there as Armageddon also” —Dave Hunt, “Cup of Trembling”

Joel, those are excellent finds. I was aware of Dave Hunt’s position, but to see Darby, Scolfield and Ryrie identify Gog as Antichrist are real gems. Good job.
Amazing!
Dave is not infallible. His work “A Woman Rides The Beast” is the benchmark of that prophecy in Rev. I wonder what he would say about the Psalm 83 war which many Bible scholars believe precedes the Gog Magog war..
JW,
A Psalm 83 war?
Bill Salus in his book “Psalm 83 A Prophecy Revealed”, about a Psalm written by Asaph, that outlines a conflict, previous to the Ezekiel 38 and 39 war, which involves the immediate Muslim nations that surround Israel and their total defeat by the Jewish State.
Let me know if you disagree. Here’s a video, hope it downloads.

JW,
I have read all of Salus’ books. If you read the article which I’ve attached, I think it shows that his proposed scenario simply does not align with the Scriptures.
Blessings!
Thanks for your responses, Joel. I did read your article and I’m not buying all of Salus’ claims. He makes a compelling case, probably the selling of his book is primary, but I look at all the scriptures to see if what is said by the Bible scholars is true–like a Berean would, just the same as Dave Hunt was and I’m certain you are too.
I love your site, and I was only wondering what Dave would have thought if he had read Salus’ latest book as I indicated in my original post.
Once again, thank you for responding so graciously.
JW,
I couldn’t speak for Dave. Amen to being a Berean.
Bless you!
