Ten years ago when I began trumpeting the Biblically prophesied reality that the Middle East would one day experience another period of Turkish domination, the idea was largely ignored. Beyond this, the mere mention of the word “Caliphate” by then-President Bush was outright mocked by many in the liberal media. But little by little the mocking abated. Eventually, as the pattern always does, the conversation turned to the notion that a Caliphate could be a good thing. And now we even find the specific argument that Turkey, of all nations, is best suited to lead a revived Ottoman Caliphate. (With Israel under its patronage no less) But perhaps most surprising is the fact that it comes from the unlikely bastion of conservatism American Thinker.

As long as selective vision has too much clout, dangerous ideas like this will sprout up like mushrooms.
Not the best of time for Ankara, given what is written here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/currency/10092464/South-African-rand-leads-emerging-market-rout.html
So, the next phase to be enacted by Erdogan, et al?

I think Joel’s assessment is bang on the money. Turkey seems to be turning towards a much more sinister path by stealth.
We truly are seeing prophecy happen in front of us – I think with the uprising in Turkey and what will come of it – most likely a new government under the guise of democracy, which will in fact turn out to be more Islamic. Important to keep an eye on Syria right now too – in particular the destruction/desolation of Damascus. I think we could potentially see a Caliphate arise in the next few years very easily – with the influence of Arab League growing and the consequences of the Arab Spring and subsequent Islamic governments it seems inevitable. Regardless, looking forward to the return of Yeshua – that’s why I look at all these other signs – it’s in anticipation of His return.
Joel, I am a firm believer in the role of Turkey as the dominant Islamic kingdom of the North, but with Germany’s past and continued ascendency in Europe is there reason to believe Germany will be part of the Assyrian empire?
Please see the article and let me know if these two streams of thought can be married rather than a one or the other take or leave it understanding of prophecy.
