On Jan. 31, 2011, the first day protests began in Egypt, in an WND article titled, “What’s next in the Middle East,” I predicted precisely what we are now seeing unfold in Egypt. Don’t get me wrong – I am no prophet, but as I said then, and continue to believe, if one simply has a solid understanding of what the Bible says about the future of the region, as well as a solid understanding of the religious and geopolitical landscape of the Middle East, then this was a no-brainer. Unfortunately, the Obama administration, and the entirety of the mainstream media, missed this one by a full 180 degrees.
Literally hours after the protests began in Egypt, President Obama called for an “orderly transition” to democracy there, stopping just shy of demanding President Mubarak step down, but making it clear that his days were numbered.
Only days later, Obama even praised the Egyptian revolutionaries.
Later, Obama spoke directly to Mubarak and personally demanded that his resignation take place “within days.”
Obama then stepped out into the foyer of the White House and declared to the world that Mubarak’s departure must “begin now.”
Finally, after the resignation of one of the United States and Israel’s longest, strongest and most important allies in the region, President Obama declared:
“The people of Egypt have spoken. Their voices have been heard. and Egypt will never be the same. … By stepping down, President Mubarak responded to the Egyptian people’s hunger for change, but this is not the end of Egypt’s transition. It’s the beginning.”
How is it that the president of the United States could get it so wrong, while mere commentators like myself and Glenn Beck, who are regularly mocked as absolute lunatics by the mainstream media, got it so right?
On the day the revolution began, I made the following prediction:
“… in the short term, the Brotherhood, the ideological child of Sayyid Qutb and Hassan Al-Banna, will be the biggest winner. After the dust settles and the Egyptian government is reformed, the Muslim Brotherhood (al-Ikhwan) will certainly ease their way into significant positions of power, not at all unlike Hezbollah in Lebanon. … In a dramatic and portentous shift, the U.S. and even Israel will be forced to recognize and deal with the strengthened Ikhwan Party in Egypt.”
A mere five months later, after the revolutionaries (with the help of Obama) ousted Mubarak, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton fulfilled my prediction to a T. America’s previous policy of not negotiating with terrorist organizations had come to an end:
“We believe, given the changing political landscape in Egypt, that it is in the interests of the United States to engage with all parties that are peaceful, and committed to non-violence, that intend to compete for the parliament and the presidency.” (Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, June 29, 2011)
Now, less than a year later, the worst possible scenario is already coming to pass. And the mainstream media pundits that mocked then have gone radio silent.
According to The Voice of Russia, in a speech made at Cairo University, Mohammed Mursi, one of the leading Muslim Brotherhood candidates, is calling for an Egyptian constitution based on the Quran and Shariah law as well as full blown jihad against non-Muslims:
“The Quran is our constitution, the Prophet is our leader, jihad is our path, and death in the name of Allah is our goal. … Today we can establish Shariah law because our nation will acquire well-being only with Islam and Shariah. The Muslim Brothers and the Freedom and Justice Party will be the conductors of these goals.”
And only a week ago, Egyptian Cleric Safwat Higazi speaking on behalf of candidate Mursi, made calls for the a renewed Caliphate, or as he put it, “A United Arab States.”
In the videos captured by MEMRI TV but ignored by the American press, Higazi’s calls for the conquering of Jerusalem as the seat of the coming Caliphate spark the the massive crowd to go absolutely wild.
If Mursi wins the election, he will hold office for four years. The voting begins on May 23.
While all of this is quite sobering, many still do not understand the full meaning of Higazi’s calls. When Higazi calls for the restoration of the Caliphate to the shouts of the crowds, it is ultimately the Islamic messiah figure known as the Mahdi that they are cheering and crying out for. According to Islamic apocalyptic tradition, the Mahdi is the awaited and coming Caliph of Islam.
According to Egyptian authors Muhammad ibn Izzat and Muhammd ‘Arif in their book “Al-Mahdi and the End of Time”:
The Mahdi will be victorious and eradicate those pigs and dogs and the idols of this time so that there will once more be a Caliphate based on prophethood as the hadith states. … Jerusalem will be the location of the rightly guided Caliphate and the center of Islamic rule, which will be headed by Imam al-Mahdi. … That will abolish the leadership of the Jews … and put an end to the domination of the Satans who spit evil into people and cause corruption in the earth, making them slaves of false idols and ruling the world by laws other than the Shariah [Islamic Law] of the Lord of the worlds. (Muhammad ibn Izzat, Muhammad ‘Arif, “Al Mahdi and the End of Time” (London,Dar Al-Taqwa, 1997), p. 40)
According to various Islamic hadith, both Sunni and Shi’a, the armies of the Mahdi are believed to march to Jerusalem and plant the black flags of Islam on the Temple Mount. I detail these traditions in great detail in my book “Islamic Antichrist,” and for several years now, I have continued to warn of precisely this kind of messianic undercurrent swirling and growing throughout the Islamic world. Of course, it is doubtful that the blind guides in the Obama administration or the mainstream media will stop and take notice, but for those of us who unashamedly believe what the Bible says about the days ahead, it is essential that we sit up now and take notice. As President Obama triumphantly declared, “Egypt will never be the same. … this is not the end of Egypt’s transition. It’s the beginning.”
Very dark days lie ahead. Now is the moment to inform and prepare ourselves.
